Media monitoring refers to keeping the records and reading, watching and listening to media contents on a continual basis. Earlier it was confined to the editorial content but now tracking social media and publication of adverts are also a part of it. 

Media monitoring is known to be the key element in Public relations and Marketing sector. 

Many profit and non-profit organizations see media monitoring as a tool for the image building. 

Monitoring editorial contents such as newspaper, magazines, television, and radio etc are some of the very common means of media monitoring known as News monitoring. Many profits, non-profit organizations also focus on media monitoring on the internet. Tracking the mentions regarding their brands on different social media sites is what they prefer the most these days as social media plays a vital role in image building and takes a second to tarnish the image. These kinds of media monitoring are known as Buzz monitoring.
